Ideal Foods For Fatty Liver Patients

Fatty Liver or medically known as FLD is a common health condition of the liver which occurs in 3 out of 10 people. The liver is called fatty if there is too much triglyceride within the surrounding area of the liver. It can be detected through an abdominal ultrasound and is mostly not a serious condition not unless left untreated.

I wrote a detailed overview of this condition here - What Is Fatty Liver?. Initially, people are not aware that they have this disease because this condition has no symptoms. You can only discover fatty liver if it develops into a more serious condition such as cirrhosis or any other health complications. So if you don't take your annual medical exams especially abdominal ultrasound, you won't be able to know that you already have a liver problem.

Incorrect lifestyle is the main cause of this condition. People thought that too much alcohol consumption is causing fatty liver but the truth is, that is not always the case. I have fatty liver for 6 years now and I seldom drink alcohol beverages. Below are some of the exact causes of fatty liver.
  • less sleep
  • too much consumption of fatty foods
  • too much alcohol consumption
  • taking excessive drugs
  • diabetes
  • obesity
I am taking liver therapy medications which my doctor said will be my lifetime drug supplement. I regularly checking my fatty liver since the first time it was diagnosed. One thing that you can do to avoid fatty liver is to check your daily diet. The more fiber-rich your diet is, the more beneficial it will be to your health.

But did you know that there are foods that are highly against the accumulation of fats in the liver, thus preventing this disease. Let me enumerate some of the pro-liver foods that helps sustain a healthy liver.

Onion
This is the first vegetable that my doctor highly recommends. This antioxidant-rich food is a proven natural treatment for liver disorders. It can also treat and prevent some of the most serious diseases such as respiratory problems, bacterial infections and cancer. So make sure that you eat a lot of onions to help strengthen your immune system and prevent the development of fats in your body organs.

A pro-heart food, garlic is another perfect remedy for fatty liver condition. Like onions, garlic has many antioxidant properties plus it is a known anti-bacterial food. Garlic helps in reducing bad cholesterol in the body and it also decreases blood sugar levels and fats which are all mainly because of garlic's allicin content.

Ginger
This wonder food can reverse the harmful effects of fatty liver and can even halt its progression. Ginger mainly activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor and helps sensitize the effects of insulin. Aside from these benefits, ginger has also antioxidants that helps prevents the harmful effects of free radicals in the body.

Cucumber
Do you often use cucumber to treat your eye's dark circles? Well, you will gonna love this vegetable more because it can help treat your fatty liver. Cucumber contains fiber which helps control blood cholesterol and helps reduce gastric peristalsis inside the body. Tartronic acids which are found in cucumber, is the most important ingredient that can help prevents fat formation which results from excessive fatty food consumption and sugar intake.

Other foods that helps prevent fatty liver are broccoli, whole wheat foods, apple, soursop, acai berry, soy beans and many more. All these foods can contribute positively with your liver condition but these are not considered the exact treatment for fatty liver. You have to consult your condition to your doctor for immediate and proper diagnosis as well as possible treatment options.

Remember that you have to take fatty liver seriously because it can lead to a more serious disease. Once you are diagnosed with this disease, it is wise to change your lifestyle for good and avoid stressing yourself. Stop smoking and drinking alcohol and eat healthy.
